Social media is going HAM right now. Mind you, it’s nearly 2 in the morning, East Coast time, and everyone is reacting to this breaking news! Potential COTY (Coach of the Year) candidate, and Boston Celtics head coach, Ime Udoka, is facing a “significant suspension.” The news was first announced by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter with minimal details. Eventually, the reason was exposed.

Reportedly, the new coach – who led the Celtics to a transformational year last season – had an “improper relationship with a female member of Celtics’ staff.”
While this story continues to develop, we do know that he faces a lengthy suspension. His job, however, isn’t believed to be in jeopardy. His relationship, on the other hand, might be.
“Udoka had an improper intimate and consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff,” was the exact statement shared online.
Now, if you’re unfamiliar, let me enlighten you on a quick fact – Ime Udoka is engaged to actress, Nia Long. So you can only imagine the backlash and reactions on social media platforms right now. Especially on Twitter.
While we don’t know the reason as to why he would cheat, we do know who the alleged woman – a member of the Celtics staff – is, and the news circulated quickly as social media users shared her photo.
For Celtics fans, we shouldn’t be too worried about his job being in jeopardy, but we should have empathy for Nia. The severity of his punishment could be as extreme as suspension for an entire season, or for just a few weeks – the extent of it is in the Celtics organization’s hands.
“No final decision has been made on the length of a suspension, but internal discussions have included scenarios that would keep Udoka out for the entirety of the 2022-2023 season.”
There are plans for Udoka to address the media this Monday, ahead of Boston’s training camp on Tuesday. I can only hope all of this pre-season drama will result in a championship ring for the Celtics – because he just might lose the one ring he currently has on his finger if these rumors are indeed true.
