Chuck D Returns With “Radio Armageddon,” a Broadcast of Resistance and Rhythm

Chuck D, the influential voice behind Public Enemy and a defining figure in hip hop’s political consciousness, has released Chuck D Presents Enemy Radio: Radio Armageddon through Def Jam Recordings. The 14-track project, which dropped May 16, is available on all major streaming platforms and in physical formats, including vinyl and CD.

The album marks Chuck D’s return with Enemy Radio, offering what he describes as a “broadcast of resistance, revolution and rhythm.” True to form, Radio Armageddon delivers a message-centered sound that bridges hip hop’s foundational figures with a new generation of artists.

“This project is a broadcast of resistance, revolution, and rhythm,” Chuck D said in a statement. “I’m proud to have these warriors alongside me on the dial.”

The record brings together pioneering contributors from across hip hop’s timeline. Appearances include Daddy-O of Stetsasonic, Schoolly D, Phill Most Chill, Donald D, and Jazzy Jay. Also featured are 1/2 Pint, ULTRAMAG7, Miranda Writes, and acts from Chuck D’s SpitSLAM Record Label Group, including The Impossebulls and Blak Madeen.

The album’s first single, “New Gens,” featuring Daddy-O, was released April 18. Rolling Stone praised the track, noting its “wild, febrile tapestry of soulful horns, dubby echoes, and old-school beats” reminiscent of Chuck D’s work with the Bomb Squad.

Produced and mixed by C-Doc for DefBeat Posse Productions and ID!, with co-production and deconstruction by DJ MROK for Philly Wicked Productions, the album includes vocal engineering by JP Hesser at Castaway 7 Studios in Ventura, California.

Tracks such as “Black Don’t Dead” with DJ Too Tuff, “Is God She?” featuring 1/2 Pint and Miranda Writes, and “Signing Off” with Schoolly D highlight the album’s thematic focus on identity, history, and the urgency of cultural clarity.

Chuck D, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, continues to engage listeners with his mix of activism, music, and commentary. Beyond his founding roles in Public Enemy and Prophets of Rage, he remains active as a visual artist and author.
