Brooklyn Bodega, producers of The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival are proud to announce details for their 2015 programming. Entering its 11th year, The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival is one of the longest running and largest Hip-Hop cultural events in New York City. Hosting Artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Afrika Bambaataa, Q-Tip, De La Soul, Ghostface Killah, Lupe Fiasco, KRS ONE, Busta Rhymes and more the annual event prides itself on bringing together the best of Hip-Hop’s past present and future.

More than just music, The Festival celebrates all aspects of Hip-Hop culture including art, film, dance, business, fashion, community activism, technology and more. All that and more will be on display July 8-11th this year all around the beautiful borough of Brooklyn.

Headlining the Festival this year is none other than Common. The legendary Chicago MC is riding high after winning both an Oscar and a Grammy this year. Arguably one of the greatest MC’s of all time, Common’s longevity, commitment to the culture and the community are unprecedented. Not to mention along with stars like Will Smith, LL Cool J, Ice Cube and Queen Latifah Common has achieved ever elusive success on TV and Film. From his run on AMC’s “Hell On Wheels”, roles in “Selma”, “Smoking Aces”, “Just Wright”, “American Gangster” and his newest “Run All Night” with Liam Neeson, to many Common is just a movie star.

To Hip-Hop heads he is the MC that put Chicago on the map, paved the way for (BHF Alum) Kanye West and has delivered a gang of classic songs and albums. “I Used to Love H.E.R” still stands as a pillar of MC skill. Albums like “BE”, “Resurrection”, “Like Water For Chocolate” and and the most recent “Nobody’s Smiling” are staples of any true head’s collection.

Like previous headliners before him Common’s career is the lens by which one can view and appreciate the very essence of Hip-Hop culture.

Most importantly Common represents the true spirit of Hip-Hop, that of community empowerment and activism. His commitment to the #BlackLIvesMatter protest and stirring performances and speeches on the biggest stages serve as inspiration to a world. The Festival and the entire Brooklyn Bodega team share his dedication and are proud to add this brother to our family.
