Damon Wayans is reuniting with his former “In Living Color” castmate David Alan Grier, guest starring on NBC’s “St. Denis Medical” when the hospital comedy returns for its third season.
Wayans, known for his work on “My Wife and Kids” and “Lethal Weapon,” will play Dr. Highland, a charming but pompous physician who arrives at St. Denis while Grier’s character, Ron, recovers from surgery.
Dr. Highland quickly wins over nearly everyone at the chronically understaffed Oregon hospital. Patients and staff alike fall for his confidence and medical insights, with one notable exception: Alex, who remains unimpressed by the new doctor.
The reunion marks another collaboration between Wayans and Grier, who were cast members of the influential sketch comedy series “In Living Color.” The Fox series, created by Keenen Ivory Wayans, ran from 1990 to 1994 and featured the Wayans brothers alongside Grier and other performers.
“St. Denis Medical” is a mockumentary set at an underfunded, understaffed Oregon hospital, following doctors and nurses as they navigate demanding patients, limited resources, and the challenges of keeping their own lives together.
In its third season, romantic entanglements and personal struggles further complicate relationships in the emergency department, pushing some of the St. Denis staff to their limits.
The series stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi.
“St. Denis Medical” returns Monday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. on NBC. The first two seasons are available to stream on Peacock.
