From The Editor: That Time on Twitter Karen Wasn’t Remotely Civil

I been in the game for a while and though I may disagree with many of my peers, I have to say Karen Civil is among the few I can honestly say I dislike.

No, I am not hating and she has not done me wrong personally, but I just don’t like her for one reason: She’s phony.

I don’t mean industry phony. I mean definitively phony.

Harsh? Maybe. I respect people who may disagree. You are entitled to feel however you choose as am I. However, please continue reading.

I stopped being a fan some time ago and it all started out when Karen Civil took to Twitter on October 23, 2013 and told a story about an incident with a vagrant.

According to her, she placed a twenty-dollar bill in this man’s cup and after he expressed disappointment in the amount she gave, she kicked his cup over.

Wait.

Of course, the man should have been happy with anything he was given. I, in no way, condone his alleged sense of entitlement. But, to kick his cup over is extraordinarily childish at best, and having the audacity to brag about it on social media afterward was ridiculously disappointing. According to a majority of replies, I was not alone in feeling that way.

[She deleted the Instagram, but the replies via Twitter are still live.]

She or one of her staff blocked me on Twitter because I posed this question – What if the man had slapped the shit out her? I’m not suggesting that it would have been okay as I deplore any violence against women, but I have still had to ask that question.

Would she still think it was cool to kick his cup over? Or, would she, as the victim, seek out sympathy? I personally doubt she would have mentioned kicking his cup over at all. Being the victim of an unprovoked attack would have made for a better story. We know Karen Civil is all about the better story.

This is not to say that she hasn’t done good, but unlike my peers who alternate sucking each other off, I won’t pretend that she’s this great person. She’s a great brand, but as a person… You have the right to decide for yourself.

I would like to believe in the time since this event, she has grown into a better, more compassionate person as much as she has grown in influence. For the sake of her brand, I hope so. Until then, live civil my ass.
