The multifaceted artist Septimius The Great’s meteoric rise in the entertainment industry has captured the attention of fans, tastemakers and power brokers alike. With his debut album Septimus 2.0, Amazon Prime film “Double Dekoi” and the highly anticipated television series “Thirty” on the horizon, the Maryland based star is clearly making his mark across the board.

Tell us more about your debut album Septimius 2.0? How would you describe the album?
My debut album Septimius 2.0, it is uplifting and upbeat dance music with fusions of all genres of music. Definitely a feel-good album. My music is usually EDM / dance music.

How does this album differ from other ones that you have produced in the past?
This sophomore album is different because it is an elevation of my skills as a musician, and it has the cross genres, and I am not just staying in dance music. The elements of all genres allow me to be creative and unique when it comes to producing that type of music.

What was the creative process behind making the album and how does that translate into it?
My creative process has always been about the real Septimius Severus. So, what I do is I take the music and I tell stories about him. What drives the music for me while creating music is the beat. I collaborate with different producers who understand my sound, and depending on the beat will reference to me what type of song it will be.

How do you feel about your recent Grammy collaboration this year with Kabaka Pyramid?
My experience running the Grammy was a shocking one because I did not know about it. I knew that Kabaka pyramid was submitted for the Grammys, but I did not know my song made it on his album. So, it was really exciting to hear that, and I could not believe it. My next step is to win the Grammy solo under my name instead of a Grammy collaboration award. I am really looking forward to a Grammy award for Septimius The Great that will solidify my one step closer to being an EGOT winner of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

Balancing an acting and music career must be difficult. How do you balance your schedule and take the time to decompress?
That is the biggest question of them all because I still have my regular full-time job as a vice president for Kohls’ marketing firm. At the same time, I am still Septimius The Great the: actor, music artist, fashion model, MC, and host as well as a speaker. It is difficult for me to understand that while juggling all these things. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and I look at myself and I ask, “who are you today?” It has been a challenge.

Speaking of your acting career, you have an upcoming TV series called, “Thirty” that is supposed to be released in July. What was the experience like working on a set?
It was good it is my fourth or fifth set that I have been on as an actor, but it is my first that is being released. It was fun and innovative. I got to almost play myself as a character along with telling the story of the actual writer and directors. Me as a music artist is great, but I am ready to involve myself as an actor as well.

How does this series differ from any other roles that you have portrayed?
This one is a little different because I had to get out of my comfort zone to play a down-low fluid character who lived two lives. It was a stretch for me, but it was fun. I got to play like two roles, so it was fun. I was only supposed to come in a do one scene, which was an office scene, but the director quickly launched me as a reoccurring main character.

What can fans expect from the upcoming season?
It is going to dive deeper into who Tony is. The fans can expect to see what his mental state is like, his sexual orientation, happiness, and depression. They are going to see him truly become himself.

How was it working with the cast? Can you share any insight on what fans can expect from your acting counting parts in the series?
It is going to be hot and steamy. You are going to be mad and sad; it is truly a roller-coaster of emotions. It will make you more in tune with your emotions and facing trauma. The story is about a gentleman and what his life what like in his thirties and his group of friends were all the same age, so it shows their lives as well. It has some educational components to it as well.
