Maria Myraine, affectionately known as My-My, has achieved success in front of the camera and on runways as well as behind the scenes. she simply wins at everything she does while looking great doing it.

It’s been three years since our last interview. Last time we discussed your Filipino for Black Lives movement. How has it progressed?
Has it really been three years? Geesh. Where does the time go? It’s currently on pause as I re-evaluate my partnerships with different organizations. I recently connected with a Brooklyn council woman who is Filipina and we plan to have some conversations on the movement once this Coronavirus stuff clears. So stay tuned in.

Your modeling career has continued to flourish including a billboard in Times Square. What would you say has been the key to your success?
I have no secret other than faith, prayer, a ridiculous work ethic and belief in myself.

Name some of the brands that you worked with as both a model and journalist?
Some of the brands I’ve had the opportunity to work with include: HipHopSince1987, New Balance NY, Nike NYC, and Sprayground to name a few.

You have been posting a lot of hilarious videos. Are you looking to branch out into comedy?
Me? Do comedy? Nah. I’m just sarcastic by nature and love a good laugh. Tik Tok has been keeping me sane in quarantine.

As someone who has experienced success in many facets of the industry, which one would you pick if you had to choose?
Like you said, it’s hard to choose, as I’m grateful for all of my successes. But I will say this – the ultimate success for me, thus far, is my personal growth. I grew from being someone who was extremely insecure, who hated herself and had no idea wtf she was doing with her life. Seeing how far I’ve come? That’s been my favorite success story. And I know I have more to go/grow. So the story the ends here.

You stay in amazing shape, give us a glimpse of what you do to maintain your health and fitness?
Before the quarantine, I joined an amazing Fitness Club in Manhattan and had a workout routine that also included basketball (former b-ball player!) I also do yoga, and workout at home (especially now that I’ve just been home). You know, surviving my car accident and learning how to walk again – feeling that pain and how weak I felt, I never wanted to feel like that ever again. I made a vow to myself to stay active, fit, and healthy. Even if I can’t get a workout in during my day, I make it a point to skip the elevator or escalator and take the stairs, go for walk, jog, etc.

With the Asian American community facing an increase in violence due to misconceptions surrounding the coronavirus, what steps would you like to see taken to ensure its safety?
Ignorance is the biggest factor to anything that involves race and discrimination, no matter what ethnicity you are. Sadly, the backlash on the Asian community right now is a result of ignorance and misinformation. The biggest threat to anyone’s safety is the spreading of misinformation and people allowing sh*t to happen. So to ensure safety, we have to stop that, first.
