John Legend Releases New Album ‘Muse,’ Produced by Pharrell Williams

John Legend has released his new album, Muse, a 16-track project produced in full and co-written by Pharrell Williams.

Released through Republic Records, Muse marks the first full-length collaboration between Legend and Williams, whose friendship stretches back more than two decades. Much of the album was written and recorded at Williams’ studio at Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris.

The project blends gospel, soul, doo-wop, hip-hop, and Afrobeats with orchestral strings, horns, and modern production.

“Pharrell’s idea from the beginning was that we would create something with all of these classic, cinematic elements, almost like a Black James Bond feel to it,” Legend said in a statement.

Alongside the album, Legend released a black-and-white music video for “Bodies On The Floor,” featuring Clipse. Directed by Paul Hunter, the video follows a turbulent relationship marked by conflict and reconciliation.

Legend said the song was partly inspired by the crime drama MobLand and its themes of retaliation and violence, which he adapted into a story about a toxic but magnetic romance.

Other tracks on Muse include “Pray For Ya,” “Her,” “Get Back,” “Are You OK?,” “Daylight,” and “Fireflies.”

Legend has also launched The Muse Gallery, an interactive online experience featuring music, merchandise, and video content tied to the album.

The EGOT winner is also preparing for the stage premiere of Imitation of Life, featuring his first original theatrical score. The production begins previews Nov. 21 at The Shed in New York and officially opens Dec. 3.
