The animated series “The Boondocks” is in fact returning to television, according to comedian/actor John Witherspoon.

While appearing on a recent episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” the actor mentioned that the show is coming back for a fifth season.

The show was based on a comic strip by Aaron McGruder, who served as its main writer for the first three seasons. It was known for its criticism of American politics, and the representation of the African-American community. The show’s last episode aired on Adult Swim during the summer of 2014.

Witherspoon is widely recognized for his role as Robert Jebediah “Grandad” Freeman, one of the show’s main characters. Other notable actors include Regina King, who voiced the radical Huey Freeman, and his younger brother Riley.

After a five-year hiatus, the show is currently in pre-production.
