New York Music Month Kicks Off with Industry Conference at NYU Skirball

New York Music Month, the city’s official celebration of its music industry, launched its 2025 festivities Tuesday with the annual NYMM Conference, a daylong event hosted at the NYU Skirball Center.

Presented by the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and the NYU Steinhardt Music Business Program, the conference brings together more than 40 professionals from across New York’s music landscape. The lineup includes executives, artists, critics, and entrepreneurs participating in panels, speed talks, and one-on-one discussions.

Opening remarks are scheduled for 10 a.m., with sessions continuing throughout the day until 5:50 p.m.

Featured speakers include Jem Aswad of Variety, Beggars Group U.S. President Nabil Ayers, artist and Black Soprano Family President Benny the Butcher, and Torae Carr, known for his work in songwriting and radio. Cultural producer Bonsu Thompson, publicist Chanel Rae Pettaway, MIDiA Research’s Tatiana Cirisano, RIAA Chairman Mitch Glazier, musician and entrepreneur Taylor Hanson, and nightlife producer Ladyfag are also slated to appear.

Dre London, founder of London ENT and Don Londres Tequila, and Merlin CEO Jeremy Sirota are among the additional participants.

The conference serves as the flagship event for New York Music Month, which was launched in 2017 to recognize and support the city’s music ecosystem. Throughout June, the initiative will offer more than 50 free public events citywide.

Upcoming highlights include Wavy Awards Open Mic Auditions on June 4, a music merchandise business workshop on June 6, and the NYMM Block Party on June 7. On June 14, Latin GRAMMY winner Ella Bric and NPR Tiny Desk Contest winner Linda Diaz will headline the Young Masters Show.

New York Music Month is also providing 3,000 hours of free rehearsal space to musicians at studios throughout the five boroughs.

More information about New York Music Month programming and resources is available through the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.
