You have met the right person and you both feel like it’s time to get intimate. But slow your roll… Unless you want to risk letting one go (a fart) in the midst of it all, here’s some stuff you should avoid before you try to put it down. Sexperts at Lovehoney https://www.lovehoney.com/ have researched and collated a list of the foods that many people prefer to stay clear of before sex with the reasons why.

Beans
You know what they say about beans! Beans can be difficult for the body to digest as they contain sugar molecules, resulting in gas when the bacteria reaches the colon. Although baked beans have a reputation for making you fart, it’s best to stay clear of all kinds of beans if you don’t fancy a mid sex gas release. So if you are looking to get lucky this evening, burritos, hummus and chilli should be off the dinner menu.

Spicy Food
Tucking into a spicy dish is not ideal before you move to the bedroom so stay clear of those hot curries and dishes. Even if you can handle the heat, spicy food can cause acid reflux and indigestion which is a definite mood killer if you feel the need to run to the toilet multiple times a day!

Liquorice
The love it or hate it sweet treat is not everyone’s first choice of snack but if it is yours, it may be worth holding off until you’ve finished up in the bedroom! The main compound of liquorice is what produces the distinctive taste, but it can also suppress testosterone production and lead to an even lower sex drive if you are someone who has a weak libido.

Garlic
Although garlic may not be your first choice if you’re planning on sharing an intimate moment, it’s more than just bad breath you should be worrying about. Garlic can even impact the odour of other bodily fluids so unless you want your partner to know what you had for lunch, save the garlic bread for another day!

Mints & Chewing Gum
Although it may be instinct to pop in some chewing gum or a mint to freshen up your breath before getting up close and personal, it is a better idea to brush your teeth unless you want to risk being bloated. Chewing without swallowing creates an influx of air which will create a build of wind in your stomach, leading to more farting (or even burping) than usual.

Cheese
With a high lactose content, cheese is one to watch if you’re planning on enjoying a night of intimacy. Especially if your body does not agree with lactose, the potential stomach problems can be a real turn off when you try and get down to business so you may thank yourself for planning ahead. Key types of cheese to avoid include mozzarella, cottage cheese and ricotta.

Raw Vegetables
Certain leafy greens such as cabbage, brussel sprouts and kale contain raffinose which is a sugar that the body does not digest until bacteria in your gut ferments it. This process produces gas that can make you bloat and fart more than normal. If you’d rather stay clear of extra gas, make sure your veggies are fully cooked!
