Shoniqua Shandai Puts Faith Front and Center on “He Got Me” (Apple Music)

Shoniqua Shandai is stepping further into music with “He Got Me,” a gospel rap single built around faith, confidence, and perseverance.

The actress and recording artist delivers both rap and sung vocals on the track, pairing drums and horns with lyrics centered on protection, belief, and trusting God through uncertainty.

“He Got Me” was written by Shandai, Nathaniel Hunt, and Justin Levy and produced by Timothy Infinite, Sammy Haig, and TimiBeats. The song leans into the energy of a rap anthem while maintaining its gospel foundation.

“I wrote ‘He Got Me’ as my own gospel anthem, a reminder of who God is when life feels uncertain,” Shandai said. “It’s loud and brash on purpose. The horns and drums hit hard because I want the message to carry even further. It’s something I can turn up when fear gets loud, or the enemy tries to convince me otherwise: I’m covered. I’m blessed. God’s got me.”

The release continues Shandai’s expansion beyond acting and into music. Known for her work on screen, she brings a performance-driven approach to the track, moving between rapping and singing as she develops another side of her creative career.

Shandai also stars in the second season of “Diarra from Detroit,” where she has a recurring role.

With additional music in development, “He Got Me” positions Shandai’s faith as a defining part of her musical direction rather than a passing theme.

“He Got Me” is available now on major streaming platforms.
