The 5th Annual Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation Gala Raises More Than $1 million

On Saturday, May 16, the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation (SMHF) hosted their 5th annual gala at the Hilton Chicago with a packed house of more than 400 VIP guests and supporters of their charity and raised more than $1 million to support the Foundation’s important work serving young adults through mentorship programs and camps.

However, one thing was very different at this year’s gala than year’s past – both hosts were not in attendance in Chicago.

That day, Marjorie’s 18-year-old daughter, Lori, an avid equestrian, was involved in a riding accident and thrown from her horse in Lexington, KY.

About to board his plane Chicago, Steve and Marjorie diverted their trip to be by at their daughter’s side at the hospital where she’s receiving treatment. Fortunately, Lori is expected to make a full and complete recovery.

Known for his incredible work ethic and commitment to family, Harvey enlisted his 33-year old twin daughter, Karli Harvey (sister Brandi executive produced the event), to step in his place alongside event emcee and Today show host Tamron Hall to host the event program.

The evening honored four incredible individuals that the Harvey’s selected who exemplify the Foundation’s mission: basketball great Dwyane Wade and his sister Tragil (Wade’s World Foundation), activist and actress Holly Robinson Peete (HollyRod Foundation) and business leaders John W. Rogers, Jr., Chairman, CEO and Chief Executive Officer ofAriel Investments, LLC and Alex B. Cummings, Chief Administrative Officer of The Coca-Cola Company.

The star-studded evening also included a silent auction and performance by R&B recording artist, Ledisi. Other famous faces spotted included: LaRoyce Hawkins of NBC hit drama Chicago PD, past honoree Dr. Steve Perry, Chicago Bears football star Matt Forte, Otis Wilson, and Oprah Winfrey Chef Art Smith and husband Jesus Salgueiro.
