Fans everywhere can associate Tyler Perry with a multitude of titles and now billionaire can be added to that list. This week, Forbes announced Perry has earned more than $1.4 billion since 2005 through his various entertainment platforms.

The vision started in 1992 when Tyler Perry staged his first play, “I Know I’ve Been Changed.”

Once homeless, he overcame many discouraging obstacles and stayed persistent in working towards his dreams.

After twenty-two feature films, over twenty stage plays, thirteen television shows and two New York Times bestselling books; to say he found success would be understating the obvious.

The self-made visionary does not only produce his own content, but he also owns Tyler Perry Studios where several blockbuster films such as “First Man” and “Bad Boys For Life” were filmed.

The impact his studio has on the culture confirms his commitment to his community. It was built in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Atlanta with the purpose to inspire kids that Black people can truly succeed in the industry.

The location was also once a confederate army base which added to the exemplary social responsibility Perry has continued to showcase throughout his career. Although the land started off as a place for soldiers to “plot and plan… to keep negros enslaved, now that land is owned by one…”

Along with his new status, Tyler Perry will be honored with the 2020 Governors Award during the 78th annual Primetime Emmys.

His outstanding achievements and philanthropic work will continue building his legacy within the community and the entertainment industry.
