Amazon MGM Studios has released the official trailer and clips for “Verity,” the psychological thriller based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel.
The film stars Anne Hathaway as author Verity Crawford, Dakota Johnson as struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, and Josh Hartnett as Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford. Directed by Michael Showalter, the film is set to arrive in theaters Oct. 2.
The story follows Lowen after she is hired to ghostwrite for Verity, who is unable to finish her successful book series following an accident. Lowen relocates to the remote Crawford estate, where the assignment quickly becomes more complicated than expected.
While reviewing Verity’s work, Lowen discovers what appears to be an unpublished autobiography filled with disturbing confessions. The writings include troubling details about Jeremy and the Crawford family, leaving Lowen unsure of what is real and what may be fiction.
The trailer highlights the growing tension between Lowen, Verity, and Jeremy as attraction, suspicion, and obsession begin to overlap. Lowen soon finds herself questioning whether the manuscript is a confession, manipulation, or part of something more dangerous.
Hoover originally self-published “Verity” in 2018 before the novel was later reissued by Grand Central Publishing. The book marked a darker turn from Hoover’s romance work, blending psychological suspense with themes of desire, secrecy, and deception.
