Cardi B has responded publicly after Latto discussed their strained relationship during a June 4 interview on The Breakfast Club, saying she understands the Atlanta rapper’s feelings and reiterating her efforts to make amends following a leaked phone call that sparked tension between the two artists.
During the interview, Latto confirmed that lyrics on her recently released album “Big Mama” were directed at Cardi B and said the pair had not spoken since audio from a private conversation surfaced online in 2025. Latto said she felt hurt after hearing remarks Cardi made during the call, which leaked publicly months after it was recorded.
The dispute traces back to leaked audio in which Cardi, while arguing about fellow rapper Ice Spice, referred to Latto’s more benevolent approach to conflict in a derogatory manner. After the recording circulated online, Cardi issued a public apology, saying she respected Latto and had spoken out in the heat of the moment.
In a new social media post shared Thursday, Cardi addressed Latto directly and explained why she chose to apologize publicly.
“I truly understand how you feel…and that’s exactly why I chose to apologize publicly because the disrespect became public,” Cardi wrote.
Cardi said she never intended to insult Latto during the call and argued that her wording did not reflect what she was trying to communicate.
“On that call I didn’t even mean to call you that, I didn’t mean any harm,” she wrote. “There’s a difference in what I said vs. what I meant.”
The Grammy-winning rapper also pointed to the circumstances surrounding the original conversation, saying she was eight months pregnant, preparing for the release of her album, and dealing with emotional stress at the time.
“When the call came out, I was eight months pregnant, had just released my album, and was extremely overwhelmed and emotional,” Cardi wrote. “That’s not to excuse what I said but to let you know where I was in my head.”
Cardi said she had attempted to resolve the matter privately over the past two years, including contacting people within Latto’s circle and reaching out directly.
“In 2025 and 2026 I made multiple attempts to connect,” she wrote. “I spoke with your manager, your sister, and even texted you directly to take full responsibility.”
The rapper added that she has continued to hold respect for Latto despite the disagreement.
“I always had love and respect for you,” Cardi wrote. “I always wanted to make it right, but making it right looks different for the both of us.”
Cardi suggested that while she preferred a private conversation, Latto chose to address the situation through her music.
“I wanted to connect with you, but you wanted to address it on your album,” she wrote.
Neither artist has indicated whether they have since spoken directly. Despite the public exchange, Cardi stated that she “genuinely felt bad” about the incident and wanted to repair the relationship, which Latto said she was willing to do.
