Chasing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: LeBron James Nears All-Time Scoring Record

LeBron James

For the past 34 years, Kareem Abdul-Jabar has established himself as the all-time NBA scoring record holder. LeBron James is poised to break the record any day now.

Tonight, February 4, 2023, James put up 27 points in a loss against the New Orleans Pelicans. He is now 36 points away from surpassing the record.  At 38 years old, James is just one of six players who has hit the 30K career points milestone – and the youngest in NBA history to do so. On pace to break the record in the coming week, every major sports outlet, including the NBA, has been chronicling the days until the inevitable.

Averaging nearly 27.2 points per game, and with four games scheduled in the week ahead, there’s no doubt James will break the record ahead of Valentine’s Day. On February 7th, the Lakers will face the Oklahoma City Thunder, then the Milwaukee Bucks on the 9th, and close out the week on the 11th against the Golden State Warriors. If he hasn’t surpassed the record in any of these games, the Lakers will face the Portland Trail Blazers on February 13th.

In his last five games, LeBron James has averaged at least 28 points per game – including a 41-point game against the Boston Celtics. A king on the court, indeed. Stay tuned in as we all witness greatness.
