Defense Wins Games: A’Ja Wilson & The WNBA All-Defensive Teams

If you’ve ever played basketball, then you know how much coaches double down on the rhetoric that “defense wins games.” While offense gets points on the board, defense could turn a whole game around or set the tone early on. For Las Vegas center, A’Ja Wilson, showing up on both ends of the floor has helped her team tremendously. And for the second time in her professional career, she’s won the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Award!

Receiving 32 votes from a national panel of 60 sportswriters and broadcasters, Wilson topped Connecticut Suns’, Alyssa Thomas, by eight points, landing her in second place with 24 votes. Rounding out the top three, is Washington Mystics’, Brittney Sykes, with three votes.

In addition to revealing the Defensive Player of the Year, the All-Defensive First and Second teams were also announced. Throughout the season, these players have shown up on stat sheets for their relentless hustle on the ball. Congratulations ladies!
