Editorial: Relationships – Hire and Fire as Needed

Yes, I said it. There is no reason to allow anyone to make you miserable your whole entire life. You were someone before this person came along. Eventually, you will more than likely be okay long after you have parted ways. When I say fire and hire, it’s more than just a cheeky metaphor. I consider love and trust to be precious commodities. In this world, especially during the times we currently live in, both are precious and very hard to find.

In fact, people should consider themselves fortunate to have such gifts bestowed upon them. With that said, not everyone is deserving. The truth is most people are not.

This is where hiring and firing come into play.

Not one single successful employer will keep someone on the payroll who doesn’t fulfill or perform their duties and meet their expectations. It doesn’t matter how long you have been with the company, the moment you do not live up to all the promises you made during the interview, your ass is out of a job. They don’t want to hear any excuses or that you tried your best. They want to know do you need a box or if they need security to escort you from the premises.

The same should be applied in relationships of all levels, from platonic friends to intimate lovers. The moment it is ‘bad business’ including bad for you physically, emotionally, or psychologically, it’s time to walk them to the door and out of your life. While some things may warrant a verbal consultation or a write-up (three and you are done), there definitely has to be some fire-able offenses. They couldn’t treat anyone in just any kind of way at their place of employment, why should they do that to you?

If they truly value their ‘jobs’, there are some things they just wouldn’t do. You don’t have to tolerate abuse in any form at any time. You don’t owe it to a single person on the planet to endure suffering. We have to stop allowing people to treat us badly and even more importantly, rewarding them for it. You matter too, right? So, fire that ass. F*ck them. When you’re unworthy, undeserving, AND ungrateful, you get what you get.

You were someone likely many years before this person came along, you will be okay after they are gone. The sooner you give them the ax, the less it will hurt, and the sooner you can heal. There are approximately 7.9 billion people on this place called earth which guarantees that there are more than a few people looking ’employment opportunities. Hire and fire as many necessary until you find the right one.
