“Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” Premieres in February on Prime Video

Today, Prime Video announced the upcoming release of “Giannis: The Marvelous Journey!” The feature-length documentary chronicles the extraordinary odyssey of NBA mega-star, Giannis Antetokounmpo – from an impoverished childhood in Greece, as the son of Nigerian immigrants, to becoming one of the biggest stars in basketball.

Set to premiere on February 19th, the documentary will be exclusively released on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. “Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” is the latest addition to the Prime membership; where members can enjoy savings, convenience, and entertainment, all in a single membership.

Painting an intimate portrait of a global superstar is no easy feat, but Amazon Prime delivers a quality product that truly exemplifies the dominance of Giannis, as a 2x league MVP and NBA champion. His path to success began in a world away from the spotlight, on the streets of Athens, where he was raised on the margins of society. Alongside three brothers, raised by his immigrant parents, the Antetokounmpos were in search of a better life.

The documentary recounts humble beginnings and outlines the intricacies of Giannis’ rise to stardom.

Throughout the doc-film, the personal commentary is shared by Giannis and his family along with other basketball luminaries such as Jason Kidd, Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday, Kenny Smith, Ernie Johnson, and more. This also marks the first time the family has given first-person accounts of their collective journey.

Presented by Prime Video, “Giannis: The Marvelous Journey” is an Improbable Media and Words + Pictures production. The film is directed and produced by Emmy Award winner, Kristen Lappas, produced by Connor Schell and Hannah Beir, and executive produced by Aaron Cohen, Libby Geist, Nick Monroe, and Giorgos Panos.
