NY Liberty Avoid Sweep, Extends WNBA Finals Series to Game 4

Go hard, or go home.

This past Sunday, October 15th, the Las Vegas Aces had an opportunity to beat the New York Liberty in a Finals sweep. Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart, however, had other plans. The dynamic duo combined for 47 points, leading the Liberty to a victory, at home, and forcing a Game 4. The stars were also out in New York as Spurs legend, Tony Parker, was seen during pre-game shootaround. Throughout the evening, other icons like Sue Bird, Swizz Beatz, and Robin Roberts, were also announced and shown on the jumbotron. Giving big Brooklyn energy, Lil Kim also performed at halftime!

Looking back at the first two games of the Finals matchup, New York struggled on both ends of the court. However, a fire sparked in Game 3, ignited by Jones who hit four of New York’s 13 3-pointers early on in the game. Liberty coach, Sandy Brondello, recognized how big of a role Jones played in the game, “She was huge for us,” she said.

“Those 3’s changed the moment of the game a bit. The ball went in. Other games the ball weren’t going in for us. We got back to our identity. Proud of the effort and commitment and connection we had. Now we’ve got to do it again.” – Coach Brondello

Not only did the Liberty save their season from ending, but they also made history. This was the franchise’s FIRST win in the WNBA Finals since Teresa Weatherspoon’s half-court shot against Houston, in Game 2, in 1999! Momentous indeed, however, the Aces are still one win away from back-to-back championships. In a best-of-five series, the Aces head into Game 4 tomorrow with a 2-1 series lead.
