Power Book III: Raising Kanan’s London Brown is bringing his stand-up comedy tonight to New York City.
Brown, who played Marvin Thomas on STARZ’s “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” is scheduled to perform a stand-up comedy show Friday, Sept. 18, at 9:30 p.m. at The Grisly Pear Midtown, 243 W. 54th St. in Manhattan.
The appearance comes weeks after “Raising Kanan” ended its five-season run Aug. 7. STARZ lists Brown among the series’ principal cast alongside Mekai Curtis and Patina Miller.
For many viewers, Brown’s appearance arrives while the ending of Marvin’s story is still fresh. The character was killed by his nephew Kanan Stark, played by Curtis, in the penultimate episode of the series. The death prompted a widespread public outpouring of profound grief from millions of viewers who had followed Marvin’s evolution across the show’s five seasons.
In addition to acting, the Los Angeles native developed his stand-up work on the city’s comedy circuit, including performances and hosting duties at The Comedy Union, which he has described as his home club.
Brown later toured with comedian Chris Tucker and continued performing around the country even as acting roles on HBO’s “Ballers” and STARZ’s “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” raised his profile. Brown has also credited stand-up with sharpening the timing and presence he brings to his television performances.
Tickets are available directly through The Grisly Pear’s website for London Brown’s 9:30 p.m. show tonight, Sept. 18, at the Midtown location. General admission is listed at $20 plus a $3.24 fee. The venue also notes that the show is 21 and older and has a two-item minimum.
