Editorial: The Art of Letting Go

The art of letting go. It’s one of the most important lessons in life and most of us rarely implement it as often as we should.

We hold on to things, whether they are bitter memories or people who mean us no good, but it’s never too late to let them go. Hold on to the lessons. Learn from your experiences and make better decisions going forward.

Growth demands change. My sensei Dazell Green Sr. taught us that it really comes down to the nouns in your life. Change the people you deal with, the places you go, and the things you do, and you can change everything.

But, you have to want to do it. You have to be fed up. You have to be tired of the negative nouns in your life that hold space meant for better things. Be ruthless when taking inventory of the good things in your life and set whatever doesn’t belong out with the trash.

Let it go. Live forward. It won’t be easy and it may hurt, I won’t lie. But every day, it will hurt a little less and one day your only regret will be not having done so sooner.

I am happy with my life and loved truly for the things that matter most. It comes at a cost (addition by subtraction), but I’d pay it gladly – every single day.
