The WNBA to Celebrate Black History Month

For the second year in a row, the WNBA and the Playa Society – a brand designed to celebrate and empower women in sports – have created a limited edition Black History Month sweatshirt. The design highlights the WNBA’s recognition and appreciation for the contributions Black women have continuously made in growing the game of basketball.

The sweatshirt is set to go on sale Friday, February 3, 2023, at PlayaSociety.com.

The limited edition threads will be sold at PlayaSociety.com, with the WNBA’s portion of profits going towards non-profit Black Girl Ventures. Playa Society will retain its portion. Black Girl Ventures provides Black/Brown woman-identifying business entrepreneurs with access to the community, capital, and capacity building in order to meet business milestones that lead to economic advancement in entrepreneurship.

The WNBA has also announced that throughout the month of February, WNBA.com will feature a four-part series from WNBA journalist, Dorothy Gentry, highlighting various leaders from the African-American community who have made a major impact on the WNBA – from playing in the League to reporting on the game, and to serving in the front office of teams.

The WNBA’s social platforms are also going to highlight the top moments of current and former players, coaches, and league personnel and how they’ve made an impact and made history with the WNBA and beyond.
