5 Reasons Why Flex’s Jay Z Rants Are Lame

Jay-Z

How many of you wasted precious minutes of your life over the weekend listening to Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex’s rants? While he undisputedly contributed to hip hop’s growth in New York (while making money from his promotion company and DJ pool… hmmm), his recent actions reek of a desperation to stay relevant. Let’s get into it.

1) Bringing Up Old Sh*t
He’s started by bringing up something that happened around two years ago. If he felt Jay Z via Life+Times stole his app idea for Magna Carta Holy Grail, why wait so long address it. The album came out in July 2013. It’s 2015. Why now?

2) Dipset and the 40/40 Club
Jimmy and Cam’ron have been firing shots at Hov almost every time they dropped an album. Of course, Jay wouldn’t want Flex to play their music at HIS club. Again, this is old stuff. If Flex really felt a way about it, he could have addressed it. It must not have that big of a deal as you continued to rock at the 40/40 after that.

3) The App
Flex obviously didn’t design the In Flex We Trust app himself. Other artists/DJs had apps way before Flex even launched the site. There’s no way someone as rich and resourceful as Jay Z could ever think to launch a mobile app without corporate espionage via a writer from Life+Times? How ridiculous is that? He has done business with HP and Apple but he needs to steal an app from Flex?

4) The Text
Did Flex really just waste time ranting because Jay Z sent him a text with his name in CAPS? He could have just replied. Bitching about it on the air for ratings only made Flex look desperate for attention. Most of the listeners were embarrassed for him. “Don’t Your ever capitalize your name in my phone.” Sad. Sad. Sad. It seemed like Jay Z hurt his feelings and he was looking for sympathy. The streets definitely don’t respect that.

4) He’s a Grown Man
Flex is 47 years old and his behavior of late is far beneath his status in the business. This is some highschool behaviour. If there was an issue, he and Jay goes so far back that he could have talked to him directly, man to man. At least Jay hit him up directly which garners more respect than crying on the air. If you have tell people how powerful you are, you don’t really believe it yourself. Flex says he can ruin Jay Z. In the latter’s words, “we don’t believe you. You need more people.”
