Editorial: Not DJ Akademiks Crying After Saucy Santana Threatens His A** (Literally)

With the emergence of social media, we have a lot of people who believe that they can say whatever they want without consequence. And DJ Akademiks is top tier.

The former DJ-turned-internet-troll has built a lucrative business giving his views including brutal criticism of celebrities (more often than not, Black celebrities). However, he habitually appears to reserve his most malignant attacks for women.

Yes, the guy who Vic Mensa threatened to slap on Complex’s Everyday Struggle, to which DJ Akademiks responded in the most timid and pacifistic way he could, gets really aggressively zesty when it comes to the opposite sex.

The former DJ has attacked a long list of women including Jess Hilarious, SZA, Erykah Badu, Glorilla, and Caresha/Yung Miami of The City Girls. The latter led to a response from Saucy Santana, who challenged the oft-outspoken streamer to a fight and promised to take his literal booty as a prize.

Being from Jamaica, where homophobia runs rampant, Akademiks was so angered by Saucy Santana’s threat and unable to retaliate in kind due to the latter being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, that he could barely hold back his tears.

This of course became fodder for internet and leads me to the following observations:

  • The internet has given rise to the most contrasting people who somehow manage to be both crass and sensitive at the same time. You’d definitely expect someone who spends a great deal of time being a “mean girl” on the app formerly known as Twitter to have tougher skin.
  • Not enough is being done to protect Black women from the emotional terrorism from trolls on the internet. If Akademiks went after Taylor Swift with same indifference, the consequences would be expeditious and exempary.
  • Male rape is not a laughing a matter and should not be condoned in any way. However, if there were a victim who attacked women so feverishly, empathy would be rare.
  • People are laughing because as depravedly indifferent as his attacks on women are, to see him fighting back the tears in an emotionally fragile moment is hilariously contrasting.

Hopefully, the fragility of this experience will influence DJ Akademiks to be a more compassionate person. I doubt it. Anyway, my money is on Saucy Santana…

These are my opinions and views, and I don’t care if you don’t like ’em.
