Michael B. Jordan steps into one of cinema’s most recognizable roles in the first trailer for “The Thomas Crown Affair,” offering a look at the filmmaker and actor’s take on the romantic heist story ahead of its theatrical release next year.
The teaser, released Wednesday by Amazon MGM Studios, introduces Jordan as billionaire art thief Thomas Crown, whose appetite for high-stakes theft places him in the path of an investigator as the two engage in a game of pursuit, deception, and attraction. The trailer emphasizes polished action sequences, European settings, and elaborate art heists while previewing a romance that has defined previous versions of the story.
Jordan directs and stars in the film, marking his second feature as a director following 2023’s “Creed III.” The project has been one he has pursued for years, describing it earlier this year as a longtime ambition during Amazon MGM’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas.
The film is the third big-screen adaptation of “The Thomas Crown Affair.” Norman Jewison directed the 1968 original starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. John McTiernan followed with the 1999 remake led by Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Both films centered on a wealthy thrill-seeker whose carefully orchestrated art thefts become intertwined with a romantic relationship involving the person trying to catch him.
Jordan’s version co-stars Adria Arjona as the investigator opposite Crown. The ensemble also includes Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Aubrey Plaza, Ruth Negga, Pilou Asbæk, Paapa Essiedu, and Aiysha Hart. Jon Batiste composed the film’s score.
Amazon MGM showcased the film’s footage at CinemaCon in April, where Jordan called it an international blend of style, suspense, romance, and twists. The new trailer provides the first public glimpse of the production.
“The Thomas Crown Affair” is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters and IMAX on March 5, 2027.
