Ryan Clark Criticizes RGIII Over Comments on Angel Reese

A dispute between former NFL players Ryan Clark and Robert Griffin III has escalated following Griffin’s public suggestion that WNBA rookie Angel Reese “hates” fellow player Caitlin Clark.

Clark, now an ESPN analyst and co-host of The Pivot podcast, responded sharply to Griffin’s comments, accusing him of reinforcing harmful stereotypes about Black female athletes. On a recent episode of the podcast, Clark said, “The one thing we know about RG3 is he’s not having conversations at his home about what Black women have to endure in this country.”

He argued that Griffin’s remarks lacked cultural awareness and failed to acknowledge the broader context Reese faces as a high-profile Black woman in professional sports.

Griffin defended his position, saying his analysis was strictly basketball-related. He also took issue with Clark referencing his interracial marriage during the exchange, calling it a personal attack that crossed the line.

The back-and-forth has drawn widespread attention and sparked renewed discussion on how athletes—particularly women of color—are portrayed and critiqued in sports media.
