A&R Report: Yani

We support new emerging talent every issue. Representing Southern California, Hardknocklife Entertainment’s Yani not only has a fierce hunger for success, she can rap and sing equally as well.

When did you start performing?
Growing up, I performed in a few talent shows but I started performing seriously this year (2018). However, I am working on polishing my performance by seeking opportunities to work with other independent artists building their fan base. I recently went to Dallas Texas and performed at two local shows. After, I returned from Texas I was able to immediately added onto a show with an artist named Compton AV, who is non for some radio hits like “Run Me My Money” and “The Money Dance”.

Name some artists who have inspired or influenced you.
Some of the artists that have influenced me are E-40, TLC, Nicki Minaj and Saweetie. These artists provide so many different styles, their story-lines are relatable and their work ethic is impeccable. As a young artist, it is so important to remain a student in anything you have a passion to do because it is vital for your personal development.

How would you describe your style?
My style varies, I sing and rap which allows me to capture fans from multiple genres vs. remaining in a certain genre.

What separates you from other artists?
My sound combined with my journey. No one’s journey is identical, so i feel like that’s what makes me unique because I’m sure we’re all in it for the same reason, we love it.

Name major artists you’ve performed with.
I have not worked with any major artists.

Do you have any major offers on the table?
Not at the moment, I recently secured a manager and we are working on building my brand.

What advice would you offer other aspiring artists?
Don’t expect anything. Fall in love with what you craft and never stop evolving. In addition, don’t forget the power of music and how others are impacted through sharing your experience.
