The name says it all. A student in the classroom and outside in the real world, this young talent from VA is schoolin’ everyone with his vocals. Baby-faced R&B artist Chris Scholar not only has those boyish good looks that the ladies love, but a smooth voice and dance moves as well. He’s a force to be reckoned with, so be prepared – he’s headed straight to the top of the charts.
When did you start performing? Performing has been a part of my life from early on. Started at the age of 8 and haven’t put the mic down since then. I developed my voice and love for music singing in the church choir.
Name some of the artist who have inspired or influenced you. This is probably one of the toughest questions to answer because there are so many great musicians that you can learn from, not just within your genre, but in all facets of music. I would have to say that I pull different elements from so many artists – from small scale to large scale. I admire the songwriting techniques of Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, and some writers behind the scenes. A major influence of course comes from Michael Jackson because – all around the board – he was incredible, from undeniable records to killer stage performance. Outkast, Erykah Badu, etc… I mean there are gospel artists to country singers that I get inspiration from. Everyday I find new inspirations. The great thing about music is that it is constantly changing.
How would you describe your style? In terms of my tone, I have a very distinctive sound. My style of writing differs from a lot of R&B artists because I approach songs lyrically like a hip hop artist. I like to write songs that people can relate to, but I keep them edgy and open for interpretation . At the same time, I have those songs that are straight forward – just fun songs that people who enjoy music can vibe to. I bring the rap element to some songs as well, but mainly keep it R&B. Overall, I try my best to keep my music clean because I know I have an influence on people around me and I want it to have a positive impact.
Do you have any major offers on the table? Well, I have been working diligently on my craft and have been fortunate enough to turn the heads of many major industry executives. I was first noticed by Grammy Award Winning Producer Rio Bridges in my hometown Richmond,VA. He helped develop my sound and later I was noticed by Jermaine Dupri, who has showed a tremendous amount of support and thrown me on his website’s homepage – GLOBAL14.com – numerous times. Currently, I am signed with Grammy Award Winning Production House under the direction of Harold Lilly & Blac Elvis.
What advice would you offer other aspiring artists? I would say, first and foremost, put God first and miracles will happen. Secondly, don’t get discouraged if things do not happen suddenly – because you have to witness failure before you succeed, and you just have to stay at it and work harder than everyone else around you.
