A&R Report: Esh the Singer / Red and Reckless

esh-the-singer

You have to respect artists who live for their craft. It’s what they do. Not for fame or success, but because music is a part of the very core of their being. It”s who they are.  Esh the singer is one of the few who represents it to the fullest. Bear witness.

When did you start performing?
I’ve been performing all my life. Growing up in a musical family, I felt like my entire world was on a stage. There is always someone watching, admiring, judging, perfecting and challenging my talents daily.

Name some of the artist who have inspired or influenced you.
My Grandmother and her gospel roots inspired me the most as a child growing up. I really did not get a chance to listen to other genre’s of music until high school and college. I fuckin missed out on a lot of cool stuff! When I did get a chance to listen to other music, my repertoire was sprinkled with a bit of Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Prince, Michael Jackson, Sade, Groove Theory, Whitney, etc.

The music I listen to now varies, it’s more for my enjoyment of old, new and vintage rock and roll music like the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Florence and the Machine, Led Zeppelin, Heart, Garbage, PJ Harvey, Massive Attack, Tori Amos… etc.

How would you describe your style?
As an artist, I really don’t like to place myself into a box. My music is rock inspired but it’s infused with so many other dynamics. It’s edgy, melodic, alluring, it can be a shade of dark at times, but playful and interactive. When choosing a name for the band, I was very selective because Red and completely Reckless is the evolution.

What separates you from other artist?
My story and style of approach with song writing. My spirit and passion for what I do, and the relationship with my band separates me from other artist.

Do you have any major offers on the table?
I’m currently talking to a indie label out of Chicago. Nothing’s set in stone yet, I’m totally weighing my options for a independent or major deal that suits me. I’ve had the headache of contracts, the new but old artist who sits, waits and does what she’s told and writes songs. Now, I’m ready to take that next step into a privileged life of a full-time touring musician.

What advice would you offer other aspiring artists?
Never throw in the towel. See yourself in a position and work hard towards realistic goals you set to get you there. Clear your space of all negativity, and surround yourself with individuals that support your dreams. Learn the music business and get a mentor.

Any shout outs?
I would totally like to thank Urban Magazine and BE’N ORIGINAL for this opportunity. My awesome band, Reckless team and Reckless fan’s for the continued support over the years.
